Patti Beekman has worked in public human services agencies for approximately 30 years. As Director of Social Services in a county human service agency, she managed both child welfare and adult protective services programs. She also has extensive work experience in public financial assistance programs, including food stamps, Medicaid, ADC, and long-term care. Prior to joining IHS, Ms. Beekman directed regional and local operations of the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program as the Director of two Regional Training Centers: the Southeast Ohio RTC in Athens, and the Western Ohio RTC in Xenia. As a training manager for IHS, Ms. Beekman provides consultation and technical assistance to states and provinces implementing CCBIT training for child welfare, adult protection, and public human services. She is an expert in the development of competencies, the assessment of individual training needs, and curriculum design. She provides technical assistance to state and local agencies to establish and operate Regional Training Centers, and to coordinate regional activities with central management functions. She has also worked to integrate training functions for staff in an agency's multiple and diverse program areas.
Ms. Beekman has also managed the development of competency-based inservice training systems for staff working in public human services and financial assistance programs, focusing on issues related to welfare reform, employment, and client self-sufficiency. She has developed competencies for public assistance job categories, and has co-authored training curricula to address these competencies, including Interpersonal Helping Skills; Case Management to Promote Self-Sufficiency; and Customer Service and Teamwork.
Ms. Beekman manages many of the activities of Ohio Child Welfare Training Program subcommittees and work teams in the development of new products, and the review and revision of existing OCWTP resources.
Ms. Beekman is a consultant to the Center for Child Welfare Policy on issues related to child protection, and the interface of child protection and adult financial assistance/employment programming
