Lois Tyler, MSW, LISW
Lois Tyler has a masters degree in social work from The Ohio State University, and has worked in child and family-serving organizations for more than 30 years. Her prior work experience includes crisis, intake, and family assessment in child protective services; work in the juvenile justice system with youth and their families; residential care services for youth; services to children with developmental disabilities; independent living; adoption; and interdisciplinary services for emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth.

Ms. Tyler is a contributor to the IHS Core Curriculum for Child Welfare Caseworkers, the Adoption Assessor training series, Training for Trainers, Independent Living, and Transfer of Learning. She is also a co-developer of the Training, Orientation, and Optimal Learning (TOOL) Manual for Caseworkers and Supervisors.

Ms. Tyler is a specialist in trainer development. She co-developed the IHS process of trainer screening, assessment, certification, and monitoring, and she has mentored and coached many hundreds of child welfare trainers throughout North America. She collaborated in the development of competencies for trainers, and has lead several initiatives to incorporate transfer of learning strategies into all training activities.

Ms. Tyler has also provided consultation and technical assistance to states and provinces in establishing and sustaining CCBIT systems, and in coordinating the activities of regional and centralized management components of the CCBIT system. She has also worked to promote integration of child welfare and public assistance training systems.

Institute for Human Services

Previously a Core trainer for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program, Ms. Tyler joined IHS as a training manager for the OCWTP in 1987. In addition to managing IHS' trainer development program, she provides consultation and technical assistance to the OCWTP Regional Training Centers in all aspects of RTC operations, and coordinates RTC and State Coordinator activities. She also contributes to OCWTP developmental activities.

TRAINet

Ms. Tyler is the Coordinator of the Training Resource, Advocacy, and Information Network (TRAINet.) She has primary responsibility for communication and networking among TRAINet members; conference and event planning; collaborative resource development; and resource sharing.
